Peanuts

Birdsong has been one of the most trusted names in peanuts for the past 100 years. Started by T.H. Birdsong as a feed store in 1914 , Birdsong quickly grew by partnering with locals farms to bring the highest quality peanuts to its customers.

In 2009, Birdsong helped start Peanut Proud, which is “a charity devoted to delivering peanuts, peanut butter and peanut-based therapeutic food (RUTF) to those in need both in the United States and in developing countries.” Now operating as Peanut Butter for the Hungry, they have helped provide nutrition and relief during the aftermath of natural disasters such as the 2009 earthquake in Haiti, as well as partnering with domestic organizations to donate to food banks throughout the Southern United States. In addition to giving back to their community, they give back to the Earth by using solar panels to produce 1.45 million kilowatt hours of energy per year. This reduces greenhouse gas emissions by over 1000 tons per year, aka 197 cars off of the road!

Peanuts are a super source of plant-based protein with over seven grams of protein in every ounce! In addition to providing a great source of protein, they have long been linked to the prevention of chronic diseases such as diabetes and heart disease. Similarly to almonds, peanuts are mainly made up of mono- and polyunsaturated fats, which can improve the health of your heart when consumed in place of saturated fats.
